Installation phases

1. Preparation KR FAS stonewool slabs may be glued to any flat, hard, dry and clean base. At existing buildings, check the old mortar, remove falling parts and fill up such places by classic plasterwork.

2. Installation of the bottom end profile The bottom end aluminium profile is fastened with screw anchors (according to the manufacturer’s recommendations). It provides a firm facade end, protects the lower edge of the slab and enables the fitting of insulation material in a horizontal plane.

3. Application of glue Glue for stone wool is applied in a line along the slab perimeter and in spots over the inner surface of the slab. At least40% of the slab should be covered with glue. Joints between slabs must not be additionally filled with glue.

4. Gluing of stone wool slabs to the basic structure KR FAS stone wool slabs are laid close to each other, by pressing the slab that is being placed next to the previously glued one. The next row should be staggered for a half slab length in relation to the previous row. The flatness of external surfaces is constantly checked with a screed rail of appropriate length. Corners of windows and doors must be provided with whole slabs in order to avoid cracks in the corners of the final layer of mortar.

5. Fixing of stone wool slabs with screw anchors Type and length of screw anchors should be determined according to the base type (in accordance with the recommendations of the screw anchors manufacturer). Generally, the recommended screw anchors are polyethylene screw anchors with steel screws and head diameters of 60mm. Proper fixing of a slab will be achieved with 6 screw anchors per m2 (3 screwanchors per slab), with a note that at the corners of a building 8 - 14 screw anchors per m2 should be used.

6. Installation of angle irons with a mesh and reinforcement of the corners of openings Before applying the first layer of glue into which a glass mesh is impressed, all corners of the building and openings on the facade should be reinforced with angle irons with an integrated glass mesh. In order to prevent cracking of the facade, an additional strip of glass mesh should be placed on the corners of the openings at the angle of 45º in relation to the given angle, with dimensions of 20x40cm.

7. Application of glue into which a reinforcement mesh is impressed Into the first layer of freshly and uniformly applied glue, an alkali resistant reinforcement mesh made of glass fibers is impressed with an obligatory overlap (min 10cm). Then the second layer of glue is applied so that the glass net position is in the external third of the glue. Nominal thickness of the total applied glue is 5mm.

8. Application of a primer and final layer of the facade In accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, an appropriate primer for the final layer of the facade as defined in the design documentation should be applied onto the dried glue. For the final layer of the facade we recommend the following: silicate, silicone and mineral decorative mortars.

Notes for installation:
  • Any facade construction phase must not be carried out at temperatures below +5ºC or above +25ºC, while it is raining or in strong wind
  • For any detailed technical information about the application of a particular material from the system, contact the manufacturer directly
